School Board Minutes 5/24/2010

May 24, 2010
                
                        A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library beginning at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were, Nicole Plourde, Linda Pivin, Mitch Couture, Martha Laflamme, Corinne Cascadden, Bryan Lamirande, Marion Y. Huntley, Ken Proulx, Georgia Caron, Beverly Dupont, Gary Bisson, Roland Pinette, Cheryl Pinette, Dan Record, Tim Forestall, Elizabeth Labonte, Kevin Carpenter, Amy Huter, and members of the press.

MINUTES         On a motion by Linda Pivin, seconded by Martha Laflamme, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the May 12, 2010 meeting public and nonpublic sessions. The motion passed unanimously.
                

WARRANTS                On a motion by Linda Pivin, seconded by Nicole Plourde, the Board voted to approve the warrants dated May 20, May 24, and May 31, 2010 for the amounts of $1,000.00, $4,650.81 and $169,345.10 respectively. Discussion ensued regarding reimbursements.  On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.

FINANCIAL REPORT        The financial report was reviewed and accepted by the Board.
                        
COMMENTS                None
                        
1st READINGS            On a motion by Martha Laflamme, seconded by Nicole Plourde the Board voted to table the first readings of the G- Policies GBEBB – Employee-Student Relations and GBEBD – Employee Use of Social Networking Websites. Discussion ensued. The motion passed unanimously.

2nd READINGS            On a motion by Linda Pivin, seconded by Martha Laflamme the Board voted to approve the second reading of the F – Policies (Facilities Planning) as presented in their packet. The motion passed unanimously.

FY 2011 BUDGET  The Board members discussed the City Budget Hearing to be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2010. Any Board member who is available will be in attendance.

SUPER REPORT            The Superintendent presented the following items:
  • Staff member appointed to NHSTA
  • Summary of June Events
  • Truancy Procedures
  • Staff accomplishments
  • Health Insurance Dependent Coverage
                        
COMMENTS                None
                                
NEW BUSINESS            Nicole Plourde inquired if any of the windows in school buildings were being screwed shut; she was assured that they were not.

                        Mitch Couture inquired about the status of the bus contract bids that were received. He will be given the final figures within the next four weeks.
                                                        
NON PUBLIC              On a motion by Linda Pivin, seconded by Nicole Plourde, the Board voted to go into nonpublic session at 7:24 p.m. in accordance with RSA 91-A3II, (a), (b) & (c). On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.

                        On a motion by Martha Laflamme, seconded by Nicole Plourde, the Board voted to come out of nonpublic session at 8:47 p.m. The motion passed unanimously. No additional votes were taken in nonpublic session.

STAFFING                On a motion by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Martha Laflamme, the Board voted to accept the following staffing change:

                        RESIGNATIONS;
                
                        Mary Ellen Brady – Consumer Science Teacher – BJHS
                        James Brady – Social Studies Teacher - BJHS

                         TEACHER NOMINATIONS:

                        Amy Blanchette – Health Occupations Teacher – BHS
                        Beth Sargent – Chemistry Teacher - BHS

                        NOMINATIONS:

                        Dolores Charest – Guidance Counselor - BHS

                        The motion passed unanimously.
                                                                        
                        All nominations are contingent on the applicant passing a criminal record check.

NON UNION               On a motion by Linda Pivin, seconded by Nicole Plourde, the Board voted to approve a 3% wage increase for non union staff for the 2010-2011 school year. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
                                                
ADJOURN         On a motion Martha Laflamme, seconded by Nicole Plourde, the Board voted to adjourn it’s meeting at 8:46 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
